Sometimes damage isn’t sudden, sometimes it develops slowly over time and by the time you realize it’s a problem it’s too late. This couple’s refrigerator waterline had been leaking slowly behind the fridge. Over time, they noticed a smell and when they finally pin pointed the source they realized that mold had been developing over several months due to a small hole in the water line. Unfortunately, this problem is very common so if you happen to be moving your fridge for any reason it’s always a good idea to see if anything is going on behind there, just to be safe. The mold had spread behind the wall and the cabinets. The kitchen had to be abated and gutted along with a portion of the laminate floor. But wait, there is good news… They got a seriously beautiful new kitchen from it! First off, this kitchen needed a little bit of work in regards to the layout. We removed a small peninsula area and extended the counter top which provided more cabinet space along with a better flow within the kitchen. We used maple select for our cabinets, doors and drawer fronts and put in European hinges and soft-close drawer guides. This couple did not like the busyness of granite so they went with a Quartz counter top which turned out great. They also chose an awesome glass tile for their back-splash. As far as their laminate flooring goes, they ended up changing it out for travertine in the kitchen area which was a great choice due to the fact that the laminate was continuous throughout the home and it would have been nearly impossible finding a match. Last but not least, we added some under cabinet lighting that really compliments the back-splash and counter top. This couple did an amazing job picking out materials, we love the way it all turned out!
